My first shift was an 8 hour day shift. Pretty benign. I was working with an awesome crew (yeah for Maria, Annmarie, and Heather!). My assignment was very gentle too. One of my patients needed a new IV and I was so nervous! It's been over 3 years since the last time I've had to insert one. Yikes! With the loving support (sarcasm!) of my co-workers I was encouraged (forced) to suck it up and do it! I did and all went well!

The Return!
It's official! Maternity leave is over and I am headed back to work. I have decided to make my home back on 3-1200. This is the high risk OB/GYN unit I worked on up until 3 years ago when I left to work in an outpatient setting. I thought that an outpatient setting would provide for better hours for a family, but the instability and lack of flexibility in that setting was unforeseen. So now I am back in the hospital setting, subjecting myself to the horrors of nights, weekends, and holidays. The nurse manager of the outpatient clinic I was working at prior to maternity leave is trying to convince me to come work for her, but we will see. I really feel at home on 3-12. It was my first job out of nursing school and I have so many great friends here!

We'll see if I am as happy with my choice to return later this week when I have my first 12 hr night shift!
