Oh Christmas Tree!

It was not our initial intention, but as we were headed out the door this morning Tammy and Kevin called to see if we could meet up.  Since they were also heading out shortly to get their tree we decided it made sense to get our trees together.  We went to their usual tree farm since it was in between both of our houses and really wasn't very far for us.  (but now no annual candy cane picture!)  As we were driving I realized that Tammy and Kevin are the type of folks who probably cut down their own trees, and while Matt and I are on our 4th year of "real" Christmas trees, we weren't quite sure if we were ready for actually cutting our own quite yet.  (do you remember our first real tree story?)

Well, too late.  We're there and Kevin has a saw in his hand.  His own, of course.  The farm did have pre-cuts, but we decided to give it a go, especially since we had some helpers.  At first it did not seem like we would ever find a tree and I was starting to accept that maybe we would just swing by Wilbert's a get our good, old, trusty pre-cut.  But then we found the perfect tree.  Just to make sure we looked around a little more and found another perfect tree.  So then we had to go back and forth between the two to decide which was more perfect-er.  That's a lot more difficult when the trees aren't lined up, pre-cut next to one another, there was a little bit of a hike in between!  We also can't imagine how much less fun this would be if it wasn't an unseasonably warm 50 degrees outside while the sun was shining!

Then Kevin handed Matt the saw and he cut down our tree.  All by himself.  Even if Papa doesn't believe him!

-Hey, this is Matt's first time.  We don't need to go breaking Kinley again!

The (almost finished) tree.
The tree is so nice and full - which we love.  Unfortunately to get the tree to fit into the stand we had to cut off many of the lower branches.  Oh well.  Now there's more room for presents (or kids) underneath.  We also may have snipped a little off the top... Currently the tree is approximately 1cm from our ceiling and the star won't fit.  :-)  And you don't need to twist my arm to go shopping!  I will get right on that tomorrow!

The kids love laying under the tree.  So magical!
