Liar, liar!

Matt went to play in the final basketball game of the season tonight, which left me home to put the kids to bed solo. Typically what Matt and I do when one of us is left alone at bedtime is to put something interesting on tv for Max, then we put Kinley to sleep, then come back downstairs to tackle Max. Usually this works pretty well, but every once in a while our little mischief maker finds something more fun than tv to do while left to himself. Fortunately we have our first floor quite childproofed - but Max does not cease to point out areas we need to work on!

Tonight I am finishing up nursing Kinley and I hear 'plink! plink! plink!' It sounds like a spoon hitting a bowl - however dinner was long cleaned up... so what could be making that noise? I rushed Kinley to finish eating, then I came downstairs and ran to the kitchen. No Max. I hear him say 'Hi Mommy!' I turn around and see this! Max is covered in mascara. I sigh and tell him 'No Max, this is naughty. Do not play with Mommy's makeup.' How does my sweet little boy reply? 'No Mommy. Max is good boy. No Mommy's makeup. Max fall down in grass. This is grass.'

Uh oh! Smart enough to lie already?! We are in trouble! I explain to Max that if the mess all over his body was from grass, the marks would be green. However the marks are black. Without missing a beat, Max replied that he fell in dirty grass. The marks are from the dirt. Nice try buddy, but I think it's mascara.
