Adventures in Potty Training

Well, we knew it was coming sooner or later.  Although still young, we gave PT a go in December.  A definite no-go.  Then the intent was to start once my spring semester was over.  Max was still very anti-PT.  I decided, even though we were eager to ditch the diapers, that we would wait until he showed interest, or until we were going mad with diaper changes!  As usual, last week I caught Max 'doing his business.'  When I asked him if he wanted to sit on the potty he said yes.  YES?!  Usually I get 'NO MOMMY!!'  Alrighty then, I scooted his bum into the bathroom and he emptied what was left in his bowels.  I was beyond proud and Max was right there with me.  I figured it was pushing my luck, but asked Max if he wanted to put on underwear.  Yes, he would!  Are you kidding me?!

These first few days were busy for me - I was scheduled to work 4 night shifts in a row.  It would be this time Max would choose to be 'ready.'  Matt and I decided to let Max play with the idea - no pressure until the following week when we could give it our all.  Max didn't seem to be making any progress in these days, but he also always stayed open to wearing underwear and sitting on the potty.  Every once in a while he was successful and elated to see how elated we were.

When the time allowed for me to be home for several days with Max we went full force.  I took away all of Max's diapers.  I told him that he used them all up and there were no more.  He needed to wear big boy underwear now.  He will frequently go through several pairs daily, but not because of an accident - it's because he wants a different design.  He has been doing so well, as you know if you've been following our 'tweets.'

I keep thinking one day Max will wake up and decide he no longer wants to use the potty.  Perhaps we just waited until the perfect time for Max because so far it has really been a dream.  Max certainly has accidents, but seeing as we haven't been potty training for a week - I think that's pretty impressive.  Go Max!!  Actual, now that I think of it, today would have been accident free (including nap time!) except when he woke up from nap, I took off his pants, Matt and I started celebrating dry pants prior to bringing him to the potty and he PEED all over the carpet.  It was hilarious and Max was beyond confused!

Potty training on the road.  Mr. Man had to do some business while visiting Long Acre Farms.  Big boys use potties!
