DR Wednesday

*** MAY 2010 DOMINICAN REPUBLIC VACATION ***

Matt and I did not go to sleep until almost 1am Tuesday night/Wednesday morning.  We thought it would be so difficult to wake up at 3:30am in a few hours when the alarm went off.  (Un)fortunately for us Max woke up just shy of 3am and so began our day.  We loaded up the car, changed some diapers, did a few last minute things around the house.  We pulled out of the driveway at 4:30, thirty minutes behind schedule.  When we got to the airport the line through security was soooooo long, even the workers were shocked and confused.  When we were ushered through to the 'special needs' lane because of our stroller and car seats we vowed to keep the kids in strollers until 19 years of age.

The plane rides were awesome.  The kids did so well!  We touched down in DR around 1:45 pm.  We took our time getting off the plane and through customs and immigration, so we didn't get to our driver until 2:42pm - Very specific, I know.  I just remember looking at the van's clock.  It was an 'okay' drive.  I didn't expect the vehicle to have LATCH for the carseats, but it didn't even have 'normal' seatbelts, which made it very difficult to install carseats, but we made it work.

We got to our hotel just after 4:15. "Welcome Home" was everyone's greeting.  Matt and I downed the champagne.  We checked into our room and got unpacked.  I wanted to take a shower but a water main had broken and there was no hot water.  They offered to let us shower in a different room, but I declined.  We went to meet up with some family, then had dinner, just the four of us, because the rest of our group had just eaten lunch.

It was clear during dinner that the kids were spent.  We finally took Max to see the beach, as that is what we've been using to bribe him for the last several weeks and we thought he deserved it.  We took a little walk down and took a few pictures.

Then we washed up, watched a little toy story, and went to sleep.
